They attempted to board flights bound for the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

A total of eleven foreigners, accused of possessing and using false travel documents, were arrested yesterday (August 11, 2022), at regional airports in the South Aegean as part of targeted police checks to prevent illegal exit and deal with the trafficking of illegal immigrants.

In particular, the following were arrested:

  • From police officers of the Rhodes Airport Police Department, two foreigners, who went to the Rhodes International Airport and using fake travel documents, tried to board a flight bound for the Netherlands.
  • By officers of the Thira Police Sub-Directorate, nine foreigners who went to the International Airport of Thira and using, as the case may be, false travel documents, attempted to board flights destined for Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

The fake travel documents and boarding passes they were in possession of were confiscated.

It is noted that the Services of the General Police Directorate of the South Aegean Region implement operational planning at entry-exit points (airports and ports), with the aim of ensuring a stable and safe environment for the citizens, residents and visitors of the islands of the South Aegean.
