“Offer of life”: Organ donation took place for the first time at the Chalkida General Hospital

The first Organ Donation took place in the morning hours of Thursday August 11 at the General Hospital of Chalkida, with the operation of the Intensive Care Unit by the doctors and nursing staff.

Following the wish of the donor’s relatives, the organ donation process was completed, where fully functional eyes and kidneys were obtained from a brain-dead patient who was hospitalized in the ICU from the removal of organs.

According to the announcement of the Governor and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chalkida General Hospital, Evangelos Chatzimargaritis:

But what precedes the transplant is human greatness, as at the time of the greatest pain for the loss of a loved one, someone, with the sole motivation of love and generosity, decides to overcome the pain and bridge life with death.The administration of G.N. Chalkidas, thanks and congratulates all the staff who contributed to the successful outcome of the first organ donation at our Hospital, we are proud and moved. But especially we express our warm thanks to the relatives of the donor, the real protagonists and heroes, who realized that Life, after Death, can give Life again».
