The fire in Thassos is under complete control – The Fire Department remains strong

The fire has been brought under complete control Skala Potamia on the island of Thassos as the correspondent of APE – MPE reports, after the great revival in the early hours of Saturday which resulted in the burning of forested mountainous areas in a particularly difficult to reach area.

There are currently 185 firefighters operating with 38 vehicles, 15 fire department teams and 4 aircraft.

Since early this morning, the aerial firefighting equipment continued to drop water, while strong firefighting forces, dozens of volunteers and members of the Kavala branch of the Hellenic Rescue Team fought the flames to be able to contain it.

Throughout yesterday night, the ground firefighting forces made great efforts, despite the adverse conditions due to the inaccessibility of the area, in order to create fire zones and prevent the fire from growing. However, their work was made difficult by the fact that the fire had constant flare-ups.

Touching once again was the participation of the residents and businessmen of the island who offered food, water and juices to all those who were doing business on the fronts of the fire.

Firefighters, Army forces and members of volunteer groups will remain on the island for the next 24 hours and will be on the lookout for the risk of another rekindling of the fire.
