Seven centuries-old olive trees find a place in the modern city, with the transplantation carried out by the Municipality of Kordelio Evosmos in an equal number of common areas of the municipality.
The first of the olive trees, which is also centuries-old, was placed symbolically in front of the modern Multifunctional Center on Monastiriou Street. Together with the other six who will be transplanted – as the municipality states in a statement – “they will continue their journey through time, in an investment that highlights the ancient symbolism of rebirth and light, peace and wisdom”.
The age-old olive trees, which are delivered after a relevant request of the Municipality of Kordelio Evosmos, are part of the action of “ERGOSE SA” to rescue them, a program of particular environmental importance funded by the Green Fund. These are olive trees that have their roots in the depths of the centuries with enormous botanical, aesthetic and ecological value and which were transported from areas within the expropriated areas, where works were carried out for the expansion of the railway networks.
“The age-old olive trees that take root in the soils of our Municipality come to highlight the value of our cultural heritage, operating as living monuments of nature that give us even today – hundreds of years later – the blessed fruits,” said Mayor Evdos Kordelios Mandalian. “With the placement of the 7 century-old olive trees, seven landmarks and reference points are created in our municipality for the residents and the visitors, contributing to the stimulation of the environmental sensitivity but also to the dissemination of our history and tradition” he added.
