From the beginning of the application’s operation (July 27) until today, 710,041 citizens have “downloaded” their identity card to their mobile phone and 563,072 their driver’s license.
One month has passed since the Gov.gr Wallet online application through which citizens add a digital copy of their police ID and driver’s license to their mobile phone.
In particular, from the start of operation of the application (July 27) until today, 710,041 citizens “downloaded” their identity card to their mobile phone and 563,072 their driver’s license.
Remember that the document and ID can only be saved on a mobile device. Digital copies have exactly the same validity as paper certificates within the country with the only exception for international travel. In this way, Greeks can use their mobile phone for any transaction within Greece. The next objective of the Ministry of Digital Governance after the identity card and the diploma is to add more documents to the application, such as the details of the vehicle license, the details of the payment of road fees, the result of the Technical Vehicle Inspection (VTEO) and the date of the next control, insurance details, etc. Furthermore, in the future it will also be possible to authenticate on gov.gr through the Gov.gr Wallet.
Validation of digital copies
We should mention that the issue of authenticity control is of particular importance, as the digital copies of public documents in the wallet are an upgrade in terms of the security of the citizen’s transactions with the state and the private sector. These documents, eg the digital copy of the police ID, are now verifiable and can (always with the permission and consent of the citizen) be authenticated. This is particularly important in transactions in areas such as banking or mobile telephony. However, it must be clarified that the simple presentation of a document in the wallet is not enough and the scanning of the QR is required in any case so that there is certainty that the document is valid.
Therefore, the validity check of the document is carried out by showing the QR code of the respective document to the checker. After the controller “scans” your QR code with his own device, then the user must give (or not) approval for this control through the Gov.gr Wallet application. If he gives approval, then a 6-digit code will appear which he can mention or show to the controller. Only – and only then – when the tester successfully enters this code, will they be able to see the details of the digital identity card or driver’s license.
Gov.gr Wallet is available in the iOS and Android software app stores. Alternatively, the user can download the application through the wallet.gov.gr page.
To use the Gov.gr Wallet application you will need:
* either his personal Taxisnet passwords and certified mobile phone number,
* or his personal web banking codes.
The mobile phone number is authenticated exclusively in one of the following ways:
* registration in the National Register of Communications (NRC),
* login once with web banking codes
