A new earthquake of magnitude 4.5 on the Richter scale occurred off Samos a few minutes after 5 pm.

Speaking to skai.gr, the president of OASP, Professor of Geology, Efthymios Lekkas, said that since the last tremors are smaller than the 5.2 magnitude earthquake, it is considered a normal seismic sequence.

The intense seismic activity in the sea area of ​​Samos began at 12:56 noon on Wednesday with a magnitude 4.7 tremor.

Fourteen minutes later, the second 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck.

THE first earthquake it had a focal depth of 10 km and its epicenter was located 14 km south southwest of Pythagorion.

THE second noted 16 km northwest of Agathonisi.

Since then intense seismic activity has followed with a larger earthquake of 4.5 Richter that occurred two minutes after 5 pm, with a focal depth of 15.2 kilometers and an epicenter 14 km south-southwest of Pythagoras.

Speaking earlier in the afternoon on skai.gr, the mayor of Eastern Samos, George Stanzosstated that no reports of damage, while crews from the municipality have gone out for checks.

The residents, as he said, are on the road, but they are keeping calm and the tremor was more felt in the south of the island.
