It is a different proposition compared to the T-Roc and T-Cross, as it stands out for its coupé character,

Given that the SUV category is loved not only by Greeks, but also by Europeans, VW wanted to strengthen its presence in it by producing a new and unique model. This is the Taigo, which is a different proposal compared to the T-Roc and T-Cross, as it stands out for its coupé character, while in terms of design it follows all the new automotive trends.

The model actually came not just to expand the range of VW SUVs, but to offer a completely different proposition. With a special design, with spaces large enough for the class and with good road behavior, it manages to be at the center of the searches of all those who want to acquire a vehicle in the class. We’re talking about a car that’s slightly longer than the T-Roc (4,266 vs. 4,251mm), but narrower than the T-Cross (1,757 vs. 1,782mm). It has the shortest height, but also the shortest wheelbase among the three. The dimensions are 4.26m in length, 1.75m in width and 1.51m in height, while the wheelbase is 2.55m. with the distance from the ground reaching 18.7 cm, which gives it the comfort to move on dirt tracks.

The exterior design is a distinct proposition, as it features a distinct design philosophy with small glass areas and a sloping roof, giving it a good aerodynamic value. Evaluating the new model visually, we can see that it shows many similarities with the ID family. At the front, the bonnet with four sharp edges can be distinguished, while the lighting bodies are LED with IQ Drive technology that contributes to the innovative and intelligent lighting of the road at night by turning the beams light exactly where they are needed. The light bodies are joined together by a bar that is the model’s signature on the road. Laterally, the sills at the bottom of the car stand out, the sharp edges that give it a sportier character, while the rear lights, which are also joined together by a bar, are equally impressive.

A consequence of the coupé aesthetic is that some restrictions are imposed due to the curve at the rear of the roof which descends further back than in the other two VW crossovers. The storage space is 440 liters, it has the possibility of a double floor, underneath there reserve, while with the rear seats folded the capacity reaches 1,222 liters.

In the cabin, the spaces for the objects are in the familiar positions around the perimeter of other models of the company. In fact, you immediately realize that it is a VW, as the similarities with the Polo are more than obvious. The instrument panel is eight-inch digital, while the infotainment system screen provides all the necessary information to the driver. Low in the center console and next to the normal handbrake there are plenty of spaces and cupholders.

Under the hood we have a 1,000 liter turbo petrol engine that produces 110 hp (95 hp in the basic version) and 200 Nm of torque that shows civilized behavior. The power is linear and offers plenty of torque from low revs. The engine cooperates perfectly with the seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission, while the performance is satisfactory with 10.9″ for acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h and a top speed that reaches 191 km/h. As for consumption over the course of around 560 km, the average consumption was 7.3 l/100 km, when the manufacturers give 5.9 l. Outside the city consumption fell during our test to 5.5 l/100 km .

The Taigo is a very pleasant car. It offers comfort and swallows the kilometers easily and without problems, while if the driver wants to take advantage of the 110 hp, he can choose the sport program where the behavior of the engine changes and the range of its revolutions is widened. The driving position is high and offers good peripheral vision, with the seat properly supporting and without tiring the body. The steering wheel does its job well and has good handling with VW’s umbrella of driver assistance systems at the driver’s disposal. One of the issues is the limited rear space where for tall adults the roof will be a problem. The purchase price of our test model, which was the style version, costs 25,800 euros, which can be considered attractive for such a car and all that it offers.
