He will tour Evros tomorrow,Tuesday, September 6, the Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, accompanied by the Chief of the Greek Police Lt. Gen Konstantinos Skumaswhere he will be informed about the operational planning of the Hellenic Police for guarding the borders and the “Akritas” plan, with which the country is further protected and also includes the extension of the fence.

The minister will start his tour from the regional center of the Airport, while immediately afterwards he will go to Feres, to receive 5 vehicles for the police forces guarding the borders, while he will have meetings with the special teams, EL.AS officials, the Regional Governor, the Deputy Regional Governor and other factors.

Mr. Theodorikakos will make statements to the media in Poros and then he will visit Fylakio 126, the place from where the new extension of the fence will begin, while he will also visit the islet of Evros, where the 38 migrants were finally found in August fifteenth.

As Mr. Theodorikakos told journalists, the purpose of his visit to the Evros border line tomorrow is twofold: On the one hand, it has political expediency, in the sense that the country attaches great importance to guarding the borders, and on the other hand, to be informed about every action of the authorities regarding the course of the “Akritas” program.

“We must let all our partners understand that our border is the border of the Western world with Turkey,” the Minister pointed out and added that “armoring them is of top strategic importance.”

He also reiterated that in recent months the problem with migration flows and the instrumentalization of people from Turkey is very intense and the situation is worse than 2020, as now we have successive waves on the long line of the Evros.

“If the Police did not do their job well, more than 35,000 illegal immigrants would have entered the country in August alone,” said the Minister and emphasized that the construction of another 140 kilometers of fence, which will be added to the existing 37.5 kilometers, is considered a very effective deterrent.
