In the context of the overall planning of the Municipality of Athens for Lifelong Learning, a network of actions will be implemented with the aim of providing practical support to students and families belonging to vulnerable social groups.
The first bell tomorrow for the new school year and a large operation of “sweeping” cleaning and disinfection in the city’s elementary, middle and high schools, has been carried out in the last few days by the Municipality of Athens. The priority is that the spaces that will host the students and teachers are clean, hygienically safe and fully equipped.
Special cleaning and disinfection crews took care of the classrooms and school spaces (toilets, desks, knobs, railings, doors and other surfaces) of a total of 389 educational units, placing at the same time antiseptic solutions, hand soaps, bleach and disinfectants, in absolutely sufficient quantities.
At the same time, 150 employees of the Cleaning Department, with the help of modern machines, operate around the perimeter of the schools, meticulously cleaning and disinfecting the entrances, as well as public spaces and crowded places, so that students and teachers are as safe as possible.
The mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, assures that the students return to safe, well-cared for, fully equipped and adequately staffed school units and adds: “Our effort for clean and above all safe schools never stops. This race is not a race, but a marathon, in which all the employees of the Municipality of Athens participate with passion and love, practically supporting the school community. As every year, this year we are ensuring that the children of our city will return to safe, caring, fully equipped and adequately staffed school units. In living ‘hives’ of learning and entertainment, where our children will form relationships, create new friendships and make their dreams come true.”
In the context of the overall planning of the Municipality of Athens for Lifelong Learning, a network of actions will be implemented with the aim of practical support for students and families belonging to vulnerable social groups.
In this direction, with the start of the new school year, the municipality will support students from needy and financially weak families, providing them with additional teaching support through the Social Tutoring Center which operates every day in the afternoon.
