Today, the National Vaccination Committee meets again to discuss the expansion of the list and the final validation of the groups to which the booster dose should be administered.
Vaccinations begin tomorrow, Wednesday, with the updated vaccines, which, in addition to the original strain of the coronavirus, also target in the variations of O1, O2, O27 and O5. From now on, the booster doses – after the basic vaccination has been completed – will be done with the updated vaccines. These are the “twin” mRNA vaccines from the companies Pfizer and Moderna and are a modified version of the original vaccines for the subvariants of the coronavirus.
Priority is given to people at increased risk, people aged 60 and over, 12-15 year olds who belong to high risk groups, people living and working in care units for the elderly and chronically ill, immunocompromised and health professionals.
Today, moreover, the National Vaccination Committee meets again, which will also discuss the expansion of the list and the final validation of the groups to which the booster dose should be administered.
The new vaccines are based on mRNA technology, cause an increase in the immune response, are effective and have the same side effects as the previous ones.
It is noted that the above vaccines can be administered as a booster dose, regardless of the type of vaccine given in the initial vaccination.
The booster dose should be given at least 3 months after previous vaccination or illness.
The EMA is expected to give approval for the vaccines against Omicron 4-5 which will arrive in our country in the last week of September.
So far, 400,000 doses of the Pfizer company targeting both the original strain of the coronavirus and the Omicron variant have been received. More doses are expected to be received next week, while 200,000 doses of Moderna’s updated vaccine (Spikevax Bivalent Original/Omicron BA.1) are also expected.
