The Rafale and the Maverick plane steal the show at this year’s Athens Flying Week

The eyes at this year’s event, as P. Podimatas said, will undoubtedly be attracted by the Rafale fighter aircraft. “The Rafales will be seen in flight this year by both the Greek and French crews, while we will have the opportunity to see them in the static exhibition as well” said P. Podimatas.

“Also”, he added, “the public will have the opportunity to be photographed with the Rafale while with the Rafale International stand, where there will also be simulators, we will have a complete “x-ray” of the aircraft and all visitors will be able to take the necessary information about this wonderful plane.’

The Year of the Maverick

“This year is the year of the (cinematic) Maverick” explains P. Podimatas, referring to the sequel of the movie Top Gun, and adds: “This wonderful plane, the F-18, could not be missing from the Athens air shows Flying Week 2022”.

“The Swiss Air Force did us the honor of bringing it to Greece as it is different to experience it through the cinema screen and different at close range, to feel its engine, hear it and enjoy it.”

The Saudi F-15s, the Orliks ​​and the Jordanians

Speaking about this year’s numerous participations in Athens Flying Week, P. Podimatas focused on the F-15s of the Saudi Arabian Air Force, which, as he said, “will close the dance of individual fighter aircraft from abroad” while he also referred to the participations of Polish Orlik and the Jordanian from Jordan who “enrich this year’s program at the team level”.

The Red Bull party

“Both on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September, we will have the opportunity to admire the Red Bull helicopter” adds P. Podimatas and continues: “On Saturday 17 September, Red Bull, immediately after the demonstration of the helicopter, has planned to organize a nice party for the young people who will be there creating an amazing atmosphere”.

P. Podimatas did not fail to thank “the Minister of National Defense Mr. Panagiotopoulos, the Chief of the General Staff of the National Defense General Mr. Floros and also the heads of the Branches of the Armed Forces for their support”.

He pointed out that “the co-organization of this year’s Athens Flying Week is done by the Region of Central Greece” while adding: “A big thumbs up to the regional governor Mr. Spanos who, along with all the previous regional governors, have understood the importance of thematic tourism. This year, we have visitors from as far away as Australia.”

In particular, regarding thematic tourism, he stated that “Athens Flying Week is an institution, part of thematic tourism that supports 77 professions” creating in the region “a very large event at a time when the tourist season is closing” and in this way ” we automatically have an extension of the tourist season.”
