Kia Niro: The new electrified family crossover

by

FRANKFURT – MISSION. We enjoyed a special driving experience with the new Kia Niro on the streets of the German city. The new Kia Niro meets the needs and expectations of the modern driver and at the same time is environmentally friendly. Available with three efficient electrified drive systems, with a spacious interior distinguished by its versatility and sustainable materials and technology.

Combining style with functionality, Kia is launching a family crossover that will encourage more drivers to take a meaningful step towards electrified mobility. The fully hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions of the Niro are powered by Kia’s highly efficient Smartstream 1.6-litre GDI petrol engine, while the fully electric Niro EV offers an electric range of 460km.

The “K” platform
The Niro uses Kia’s 3rd generation ‘K’ platform, which was designed from the ground up to support a combination of electrified powertrains while providing high levels of torsional rigidity. With a length of 4,420 mm, a width of 1,825 mm, a height of up to 1,570 mm. and with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, the clean design of the all-new Niro offers ideal cabin proportions and improved storage capacity.

The Plug-in Hybrid and Hybrid versions benefit from Kia’s Smartstream 1.6 GDI petrol engine mated as standard to the brand’s 2nd generation dual-clutch automatic transmission (6DCT with optimized ratios for maximum transmission efficiency and removal of reverse which saves 2.3kg) .

The new Niro EV combines a range of 460 kilometers with 150 kW of available power and 255 Nm of maximum torque for agile performance. With a top speed of 167 km/h and 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, the all-new Niro EV makes driving enjoyable and safe in all conditions.

Charging the all-new Niro EV’s 64.8 kWh Li-ion polymer battery to 10%-80% takes 43 minutes with a high-power DC charger. The large boot capacity is up to 1,445 liters in the HEV, 1,342 liters in the PHEV and 1,392 liters in the EV with the rear seats folded. A handy 20 liter front (frunk) space adds extra storage for those who have chosen the Niro EV.

The new Kia Niro is available on the Greek market with a starting price of 33,490 euros for the hybrid version, 41,290 euros for the plug-in hybrid version and 45,790 euros for the purely electric version without the generous subsidy from the state.
