ELSTAT: The unemployment rate in July was 12.6%

The unemployed reached 591,209 people, marking a decrease of 63,165 people compared to July 2021 (9.7%) and an increase of 10,509 people compared to June 2022 (1.8%).

The unemployment rate in the country was 12.6% in July this year, compared to the downwardly revised 14.1% in July 2021 and the upwardly revised 12.3% in June 2022. The unemployed amounted to 591,209 people, marking a decrease of 63,165 people compared to July 2021 (9.7%) and an increase of 10,509 people compared to June 2022 (1.8%).

Also according to the ELSTAT labor force survey, the unemployment rate for women rose to 16.3% from 18.7% and for men to 9.6% from 10.5%.

By major age groups, the unemployment rate for 15-24 year olds rose to 26.2% from 33.3% and for 25-74 year olds to 11.8% from 13.2%.

The employed amounted to 4,116,125 people, marking an increase of 133,094 people compared to July 2021 (3.3%) and a decrease of 29,013 people compared to June 2022 (0.7%).

People under the age of 75 not in the labor force, or “people outside the labor force” (people neither working nor looking for work), stood at 3,121,452 people, a decrease of 101,966 people compared to July 2021 (3.2%) and an increase of 16,465 people compared to June 2022 (0.5%).
