There is a new tension at this time at AUTH with the University Police. A group of six university police officers are inside the university, while they are accompanied by a MAT squad.

OPPI police officers are located between the Faculty of Science and Agriculture where students have already gathered and are protesting, shouting slogans “the police out of the schools, the students command their schools”, while also shouting slogans against the Minister of Education and Religion Nikis Kerameos.

It should be noted that OPPI police officers appeared for the first time inside AUTH last Wednesday, causing student reactions.

The OPPI team carried out a small patrol inside the AUTH today, while as they describe the students who were there at the time, they followed them, asking them to explain “why they are at the AUTH since the entire student and university community is reacting”.

With statements from the students, they complain that there are incidents of preventing students from entering their schools with “MAT police officers asking them for ID”.

In fact, as they said yesterday, there was a case of a student who went to enter Biology who refused to show his ID to a man from the MAT and lost the course in which he was to be examined. They also point out that they are not going to accept the police and the MAT inside the university and will continue their mobilizations.

The dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Sciences of AUTH, Grigoris Zarotiadis, stated for his part that “I think it is wrong to install the University Police. I hope the government at least postpones the implementation of this unacceptable law in the first place”.
