The trial of the two defendants for the murder of the 46-year-old businessman Yannis Makris outside his house in Voula, in 2018, began and will continue on October 12 at the Mixed Court of Appeal.

The victim had received fire from nine pistols, while his car was approaching. The perpetrator, when the 46-year-old tried to escape, followed him and fired the gratuitous shot. The murder was recorded by security cameras.

The defendants for the cold-blooded murder are brothers of Bulgarian origin, with the youngest, 34 years old, sentenced to life in prison as the perpetrator of the murder and his 38-year-old brother sentenced to 10 years in prison for simple complicity.

Before the Court of Appeal, the two brothers today denied the charges against them.

The businessman’s widow was present in court since the morning, Victoria Coconutwho is the first witness to testify about her husband’s murder.

At the start of the trial, the civil action reported to the court that it has submitted a request to the competent authorities of Korydallos prisons, ELAS and Europol to investigate the circumstances of the murder of a key witness in the case, who, according to the side of the victim’s family, murdered shortly before the previous trial.

In her testimony, Ms. Karyda said that from the camera footage that recorded the crime, she recognizes the first defendant as the perpetrator of the crime:

“They started shooting him and my husband was trying to save himself but they shot him again. My husband often saw him wherever he took the accused. He was also telling a friend of his… that day he was going to the opening of the security company he had opened with his partner. My husband has never had a problem with anyone. No one was in danger. He was driving a Vespa and a Smart with the children. Let’s ask them who paid them,” said the witness, crying.

When asked by the defense about reports in a newspaper in Australia, where the 46-year-old lived before coming to Greece, which described him as a “gangster”, Ms Karyda replied that her husband “was the best person. I don’t know what the newspapers and everyone write. I don’t know his past life and what is true and what lies. My husband had no problem with anyone.”

Other witnesses also testified in court, including a hotel employee in Glyfada, who stated that he saw the two brothers asking for a room. He also said that he had not seen any tourists, while he testified that he did not remember if he saw any luggage with them.
