Sources of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The serious injury of an airport employee is a distortion of facts

Pappas and Chr. Giannouli “on the causes and the investigation process of the accident on the runway of the “Macedonia” airport, in which his ministerial car was involved Nikos Dendias and in which a Fraport employee was injured”.

As sources of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarify, upon the arrival of the flight on which the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias traveled to Thessaloniki, in order to attend the TIF events, on Saturday 10/9/2022, it was planned to transport him by an official car which would enter the runway area, as the Airport management had been informed, in accordance with the prescribed procedure. “While the official car was moving towards the landing area of ​​the aircraft, in accordance with the instructions of its employees Fraport, an accident occurred in which the driver of the airport’s “Follow me” vehicle was slightly injured. The driver was taken to the “Papageorgiou” Hospital in Thessaloniki, from which he was discharged the same day, after being diagnosed with a bruised shoulder, without the need for hospitalization,” they report.

They also inform that upon his arrival at the “Macedonia” airport, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, was informed of the previous incident and instructed to go immediately at “Papageorgiou” Hospital the person in charge of his personal security and contacted the injured worker himself, to find out about his health, while expressing his sympathy. According to the same sources, the worker thanked him warmly for his interest and informed him that he was not seriously injured.

The two SYRIZA MPs noted in the text of the question, which is addressed to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Kostas Karamanlis, that the accident occurred when the Minister of Foreign Affairs, N. Dendias, arrived in Thessaloniki ahead of Mr. Mitsotakis’ speech at the TIF. More specifically, Mr. Pappas and Gianoulis report, among other things: “Upon the arrival of the aircraft, two ministerial limousines accompanied by a Follow-Me vehicle of the private operator of the airport Fraport went to the staircase of the aircraft, inside the aircraft parking area, to receive the minister. When Fraport’s Follow Me vehicle stopped, its driver, an employee (airside supervisor) of Fraport-Greece got out of the vehicle and then the driver of a limousine, while trying to get even closer to the aircraft’s staircase, probably due to excessive zeal, he moved spontaneously and uncontrollably as a result of which he collided and ejected the employee (airside supervisor) of Fraport-Greece and seriously injured him”.
