It is recalled that they were arrested in Kifisia and Geraka six members of the criminal group, while one more perpetrator has been identified and is being sought.

A case file was filed against them for the establishment of a criminal organization that commits distinguished thefts by people who are organized with the purpose of committing thefts by complicity and in continuation, as well as, as the case may be, for violating the legislation on personal data and the evidentiary value of police identifications.

According to ELAS, the defendants, since last June, had set up and joined a criminal group with continuous action and distinct, alternating, case-by-case roles, while committing thefts from the homes of the elderly, obtaining a total of more than 50,000 euros.

In terms of their modus operandi, the defendants moving in van-type vehicles were looking for elderly people. As soon as they found their potential victim, they approached him and, pretending to be municipal employees offering free fruit, which they took to the homes of the elderly, they managed to break into them.

Immediately after, the defendants were searching the premises and they removed jewelry and sums of money.

From the preliminary investigation up to now, 10 cases of theft have been solved, using the same methodology, in the areas of Hellinikon, Alimos, Ilioupoli, Vari, Nea Ionia, Nea Philadelphia, Athens, Piraeus and Palaio Faliro.

From the searches carried out in the “business” vehicles of the perpetrators and in a house, crates of fruit, banknotes of various countries, jewelry, cameras and a recording device were found and confiscated.

The arrested were taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Athens.
