Ministry of Education of Education against the ILO for the strike-abstention against the Institutions of the Intra-School Coordinator and the Pedagogical Advisor-Mentor

An urgent action was filed before the Single Member Court of First Instance of Athens by the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs Niki Kerameos against the Teaching Federation of Greece (IOE), requesting the implementation of the law passed by the Hellenic Parliament and in particular articles 92 and 93 of Law 4823/2021 concerning to the Intra-School Coordinator and the Pedagogical Consultant-Mentor. The Ministry asks the Court to declare illegal the strike declared by the ILO – abstention from any duty related to the new institutions of the In-School Coordinator and the Pedagogical Consultant-Mentor, who, it is worth noting, have roles supporting the work of teachers and the school unit in general, with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and the educational work provided. The lawsuit will be heard today, Thursday, due to the urgency.

The IOE, which systematically denies the implementation of the laws in practice, aiming to impose its will on the Parliament, while constantly trying to frustrate any effort to improve the quality of education, submitted to the Ministry of Education an extrajudicial motion, turning against the implementation of a law passed by the Parliament law. Among the arguments cited is that the Ministry seeks to “strengthen single-person institutions, such as the school director”, “intensification of bureaucracy” which are “very far” from “ensuring the work achievements of teachers”, among others.

With the logic of the least effort, the backward attitude and the ignorance of international practices, the ILO, which should be the first to seek the support of the teacher and the school unit by any suitable means, ultimately undermines the very interests of the sector that is supposed to represents.
