Four years after the devastating fire (2019) in the cathedral of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, which means “our lady – our mistress”), the restoration work is completed and reveals a special image of the church.

According to the Times, the historic monument is “at its best” free of “150 years of dust” on the walls.

Even before the fire was extinguished, the French authorities received a staggering amount of 846 million euros in donations. It was revealed that the project has cost a total of €700 million so far.

Notably, the rebuilding of the temple slowed down due to the pandemic and the contamination of the space by lead dust after the fire. The removal of “460 tons of lead dust” cost 150 million euros.

During the reconstruction the project managers noticed the extent of dirt that covered its interior. French Culture Minister Jean-Michel Guilment called it “impressive” to see a statue white again.

Project leader and military officer Jean-Louis Georgelin told The Times that when it opens “you’ll see him like you’ve never seen him before.”
