The Samothraki Journalistic Conference is being revived on October 22-23

Journalists and information workers from all over Greece can participate in the proceedings of the 17th Samothraki Journalistic Conference, however, a limited number of places with a physical presence are planned.

The Safety of Journalists and Freedom of the Press is the subject that will concern more than 70 Greek and foreign researchers and journalists at the 17th Journalism Conference, which will take place on October 22-23 on the island of Samothrace.

The Conference is organized by the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in collaboration with the Editors’ Unions and the Panhellenic Federation (POESY).

The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace is reviving this year, after 14 years, the Samothraki journalistic conference which it wants to make an institution again. The organization is supported by the General Secretariat of Information and Communication.

The work program will be developed in five sections:

1. EU initiatives and the expectations of the journalistic world. From the Recommendation of the European Commission for the defense of the safety of journalists to the European act for the freedom of the Media. What do they mean in practice for journalists?

2. What threatens the freedom of the press in Europe and in Greece? The investigations, the rankings, the reactions, the necessary interventions.

3. Journalists in the spotlight. Threats, attacks, violence.

4. Lawsuits and SLAPPS against freedom of information

5. Crisis conditions and Freedom of the Press: What the pandemic and the war in Ukraine have taught us.
