Mitsotakis for Digital KEPA: This effort is a policy that has duration and guaranteed resources

The Prime Minister assured the disability movement that this effort is not a temporary flare

“One of our first initiatives in August 2019 was to develop a full cross-departmental strategy to deal with chronic problems of people with disabilities and obviously very high on the priority list of problems was the reality faced by people with disabilities and their families, in terms of the operation of the KEPAs which, despite the very honorable efforts of the workers, in the consciousness of the disabled, due to procedural shortcomings, had been transformed from disability certification centers to centers of contempt for the disabled” stressed Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in event for the presentation of the National Disability Portal and Digital KEPA.

“And we were able to launch exactly this important change in the procedures of KEPA by making a series of changes which, in hindsight, seem absolutely self-evident to me,” he said.

“Why should someone have to go through repeated tests for a problem that accompanies them for life? Why can’t we enlist digital technology, to simplify the lives of those of our fellow citizens that we should first and foremost care more about serving? How is it possible to ask our fellow citizens to come to a service that concerns people with disabilities and these services are not accessible? How could we be okay with our conscience without facing such self-evident problems?’ he added.

The prime minister pointed out that today another step is being taken in this direction with the digital disability portal, with the launch of the disability card from November 1, using the tools we have at our disposal, so that this communication takes place in a seamless way and of course reducing a costs that are significant and not negligible.

He spoke about the horizontal accessibility strategy not only in KEPAs and the need for early diagnosis of issues related to the cases of children on the autism spectrum.

He also assured the disability movement, not only the disabled but also their families, that this effort is not a temporary flare, it is a policy that lasts with resources that are secured from many different sources of funding.
