by

Despite the decline in demand, domestic electricity production increased

Its decrease continued in August electricity consumption in relation to the corresponding month last year in the shadow of the energy crisis, while – according to the information of APE-MPE – the consumption of gasoline also moved downwards in the same month. On the contrary, only motor diesel remained on an upward trajectory.

In particular, according to the official data of ADMIE, electricity consumption decreased this year in August by 12.92% (it was 5002 gigawatt hours (GWh) compared to 5329 GWh last year).

The biggest decrease is due to the demand from the low voltage network (households, small and medium enterprises) which was 3156 GWh (18.6% decrease). The decrease was smaller from the large industries supplied by the high voltage grid (501 GWh, decrease of 3 %).

After the significant drop in consumption in the two months of July – August, electricity consumption is moving downwards in the 8th month as well, as it reached 35,337 GWh from 35,531 GWh last year (-0.54 %).

Despite the decline in demand, domestic electricity generation increased as August saw a spectacular increase (quadrupling) in electricity exports to 636 gigawatt hours while imports fell by 62.84% to 275 gigawatt hours.

In terms of market shares, PPC rose to 63.33% (from 62.94% in July), followed by Mytileneos with 7.29%, Heron with 6.66%, Elpedison with 6.26%, 4 .44% nrg, 2.22% Watt+Volt, 2.08% Natural Gas, 1.99% Volterra, 1.98% ZENITH and 1.35% Volton.

According to fuel market sources, August was down (despite increased tourist traffic) for gasoline with -4% compared to last year due to the increase in prices due to the international energy crisis. On the contrary, diesel propulsion moved up (+5%) benefiting from the demand for commercial boats. In the 8th month, both gasoline and diesel showed an increase compared to last year (+4.3% and +7.9% respectively).
