Basketball blunder at a school in Naxos – What the Koronida Community Councilor says

The photo with the basketball that was placed in the wrong place in the new stadium of the primary school of the village of Komiaki, in Naxos, has gone viral on social media.

This is a stadium that was built in the framework of the “PHILODIMOS II” program implemented by the municipality of Naxos. However, the incorrect placement of the basket at the upper left end of the court raises questions.

According to naxostimes.gr, the project provoked strong reactions in the area, with municipal councilors of the opposition talking about sloppiness and irresponsibility, when in fact the amount spent amounts to 119,500 euros.

Dimitris Korres, the councilor of the Koronida Community of the N. Aegean Popular Coalition, blamed the municipal authority for the careless and irresponsible treatment of the children and young people of Komiaki.

On the occasion of the “intervention” of the Municipality in the sports area of ​​the courtyard of the Primary School of Komiaki, Mr. Korres requests the creation of safe and modern sports facilities and playgrounds throughout the municipality, as well as the generous funding of all sports clubs and the free use of all sports facilities.

In detail, Mr. Korre’s press release:

“The municipal authority has proved once again how carelessly and irresponsibly it treats the safe access of young people to sports, with its intervention in the sports area of ​​the courtyard of the primary school of Komiaki.

At the same time that the young people of our place do not have the slightest access to sports facilities (since the two stadiums in Komiaki are abandoned and dangerous), the playgrounds have been demolished for years and of course there is no reason for school sports, the municipal authority proceeded to the construction of a basketball sports field, painting once again.

As it seems, the specific intervention, which is included in the program “PHILODIMOS II”, with a total budget of 119,500.00 € with the name “REPAIR, MAINTENANCE OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS AND YARDS AND OTHER ACTIONS has not” acted ” if the basketball is on the edge of the “court” and not exactly in the center as it normally should be. And also, that there is no reason to take into account the safety and physical integrity of primary school and kindergarten students, cutting the courtyard in half and creating a staircase that poses a serious risk to the safety of children every day.

Of course, the president of the community is also responsible for this, since the said “project” was done with his tolerance. He did not intervene, nor did he denounce it as he should from the very first moment. Unfortunately, these two years have proved the sloppiness and irresponsibility with which both he and the majority of the local council face the serious problems of our place.

We as a Popular Rally have been fighting and claiming for years:

* the creation of safe and modern sports facilities and playgrounds throughout our municipality, so that the youth and the people as a whole can have free and safe access,

* to be maintained and equipped with the appropriate means, sports infrastructure and facilities of the Municipality, in order to operate safely,

* to bravely fund all the clubs of our Municipality, to stop the raids on the athletes and the popular family, and to use all the sports facilities for the clubs and the people for free.

We call on the people of our place to draw their own conclusions and on a common front with parents, students and teachers, all stakeholders to organize our claim and struggle for the life that is worthy of us and our children. “
