The start time of the system of consequences (“disincentives”) for citizens not registering with a Personal Doctor is postponed from October 1st to December 1st. The relevant MLA was published in the Official Gazette.

The decision was taken due to the difficulty citizens face in finding a doctor, especially in Attica and Thessaloniki.

The Ministry of Health had announced that until the system is normalized there will be no penalties, however there will be incentives, i.e. those who register will have priority in their appointments and will also receive the free package of preventive examinations, during the first appointment with the personal doctor.

In a statement, the Athens Medical Association (ISA) recalls its strong opposition to the implementation of the measure and emphasizes its firm position that a personal physician is a right and not an obligation of every patient.

It is recalled that the disincentives that will now take effect from December 1 include an additional participation of 10%, in addition to the participation rate determined on a case-by-case basis, for pharmaceutical expenses, laboratory and diagnostic tests and operations, hospitalizations in private clinics and other benefits . From 1/1/2023 the above provisions are increased by 10%.

Those who register will have priority from 1/1/2023, when planning their regular outpatient visits in public secondary and tertiary health care units.
