Federation of Cypriot Organizations of America: Elpidophoro’s position on the illegal occupation of Cyprus is inspired

The Archbishop of America had sent a strong message through his intervention for the immediate withdrawal of the Turkish troops from the Occupied Territories

“Inspiring, apt and particularly daring”, characterizes her in her announcement Federation of American Cypriot Organizations the historic speech by Archbishop of America Elpidophoros during its official annual dinner on Friday evening, September 23, in Queens, New York.

It is recalled that the Archbishop of America had sent through his intervention a strong message for the immediate withdrawal of the Turkish troops from the Occupied Cyprus and the immediate end of the illegal occupation of almost half of the island. In fact, he had added that we will never stop our struggle until we achieve our just goal, which is none other than the liberation of our Cyprus and the existence of a united and prosperous island.

The Federation of Cypriot Organizations of America, in one of its harshest statements, describes “unfair and unfounded the criticism that the Archbishop of America received on social media immediately after his speech”, which was brutally falsified. In particular, it refers to “inaccurate and misleading publications on social media, which caused wrong impressions in public opinion”. According to these reports, as well as messages circulating on the what’s up application, Elpidophoros was accused of not mentioning the Turkish invasion and occupation in his speech, and of speaking in general and vague terms about “unity and justice”. In fact, the refrain “shame and shame again” was used against him.

However, its nationalist circles Turkey and the Turkish mass media, it seems, read Elpidophoros’ speech very carefully and with posts on social media, but also with front pages in the Turkish press, they attack him with particular vehemence and very harshly, with obscene comments.
