Zachos Hatzifotiou was for many years a municipal councilor and deputy mayor of the Municipality of Athens.

By decision of the Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, the funeral of the journalist and author Zachos Hatzifotiou will be held, out of respect, at municipal expense in the First Cemetery of the Municipality of Athens.

Zachos Chatzifotiou served for many years as a municipal councilor and deputy mayor of the Municipality of Athens, offering valuable services to the city of Athens from his position.

The deceased breathed his last this morning at the Nimitz hospital, at the age of 99.

“We say goodbye with sadness to a stateless and wonderful man,” the deputy foreign minister said in a Facebook post.

“Many would know him as a journalist and an active Athenian. But for me he was a war hero who enlisted at 17, fought in Africa and participated in the Rimini brigade that liberated the Italian city of the same name in World War II,” he noted.

“Zachus, thank you for everything you have offered.”
