A transitional stage in order to vaccinate citizens whose disease certificates are more than 3 months old and will expire in the next period, will be provided by the relevant JMC which is expected to be issued tomorrow or by Saturday at the latest, as announced by Minister of Health Thanos Plevris, speaking on SKAI TV and the show “Unmatched”.
Asked if the time would be around a month, he said it might be such a safe time but the issue is operational, as they should be able to find the appropriate vaccination appointment.
As of December 13, restrictions on those over 60 who have not taken a third installment
For citizens over 60 who have not taken the booster dose and have completed seven months of vaccination, the Minister of Health said that from December 13 they will be considered unvaccinated with the corresponding restrictions and the obligation for a rapid test.
He reminded that those over 60 who have not done any installment until January 16, will have an administrative fine of 100 euros. Mr. Plevris stressed that the measure paid off from the first days of its implementation, as within a week, 85,000 first-dose vaccination appointments were closed for those over 60.
Brake on mandatory from 50 years
The Minister of Health put a “brake” on the scenarios of compulsory vaccination from the age of 50. He explained that the decision of compulsory over 60 was made because of the risk and if there is relevant data for younger ages then it would be something that could be considered.
Mr. Plevris estimated that with the pace at which the vaccinations are moving, no more measures will be needed, however, based on the dynamics of the pandemic and the Omicron mutation, “we reserve the right to take additional measures”.
No issue of expiration of the certificate after the third installment has been raised
Regarding the debate that has opened in Europe regarding the expiration of vaccination certificates, the Minister of Health stressed that one trend calls for it to end at 12 months and the other at 9. Regarding the validity of the disease certificates of those who have done the recurrent third installment, Mr. Plevris stressed that there has been no discussion about its expiration at this stage.
