SKAI exposes the illegal actions carried out in remote areas through ghost companies set up
As the energy crisis has shot up fuel prices with citizens paying for them in gold, fuel smuggling in the country is doing well. In his exclusive research, identified a warehouse where fuel counterfeiting takes place in a disgusting place in Aspropyrgos.
The illegal actions came to light after a fire broke out at the warehouse on September 23, where firefighters found three tankers, one of which had been stolen that day, as well as spilled gasoline on the floor, suggesting illegal oil spillage.
“They choose more areas where, initially, they want to find large spaces, large warehouses where everything can be done inside, not outside” he points out speaking to SKAI the head of Western Attica Security, Nikos Sgouros.
Companies – ghosts
According to the research, new virtual companies are constantly “sprouting”. In less than a year and a half, more than 276,000 liters of contraband fuel, 10 tankers were seized, while the prosecuting authorities identified and deactivated 79 ghost companies.
The head of the Economic Police, Dimitris Lakopoulos speaking to SKAI, he points out that entire counterfeiting operations are carried out in such warehouses with the involvement of Greeks and foreigners.
“The material comes to Greece from Bulgaria. Documents exist, but they do not end up in the place written in the documents, but they end up in certain warehouses that are illegal” Mr. Lakopoulos points out to SKAI and adds “virtual companies are set up whose activity is objects that need chemical solvents such as paint trading, they put as owners straw men and these companies are non-existent”.
As pointed out in the report indicative of the turnover is that the substance with which it is made adulteration costs 0.20 euro/liter in Bulgaria and is sold as gasoline in Greece for 2 euros the liter.
However, discovering illicit fuel is particularly difficult as it is up to 50% undetectable.
