by

A crowd of his colleagues and people said their last goodbye to Stamatis Kokotas, at the Zografou cemetery

The family, friends and old colleagues, but also a lot of fans of Stamatis Kokota they said goodbye to him earlier today in the church of Ag. Konstantinou and Eleni in Zografou’s cemetery. As his son Dimitris characteristically noted, obviously charged, “in his heart he always had a place for everyone who went to see him, listen to him, applaud him, without even knowing them, they were bio wrestlers, he extended his hand to them” . Next to Dimitris Kokota, his two sisters Elli and Marianna were thereas well as his second wife, Eva and as he mentioned “he was an amazing father, he gave us a lot of love. He taught us to love the world and to love ourselves.”

“Have a nice trip our dear colleague” wrote the wreath of the Union of Singers of Greece, whose representative addressed a funeral in which he said, among other things, that “we are here to say goodbye to you, to say goodbye to the man with the warm smile, the genuine artist, who offered generously through his talent countless joys and emotions. Your songs and interpretations are a treasure for the newest Greek song and our musical culture.”

Wreaths from friends, artists and representatives of the state arrived at the temple early in the morning. “In heaven, sing to the angels” was the message on the wreath sent by Angela Dimitriou. The Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, the family of Vassilis Tsitsanis, the Panhellenic Union of Greek Singers, the collective management organization of the singers “Erato”, MINOS EMI, the businessman Dimitris Kopelouzos, PAE Olympiacos and PAE Panathinaikos, the Menidiati family, Marina Alexandri Theocharaki are just some of those who wanted to honor the memory of Stamatis Kokotas by sending a wreath.

Stamatis Kokotas passed away at the age of 85 on Saturday, after being hospitalized at the Asklipieio Voulas. In honor of his contribution to folk song and as he was a resident of the Zografou area for years and also served as its municipal councilor, the municipality took over the costs of his funeral.

His characteristic features are his long sideburns, but, above all, “his crystal voice” as mentioned by several of his old friends who gathered at the cemetery. He was born in Athens in 1937 and during his recording career he collaborated with extremely important Greek composers and lyricists, such as Stavros Xarchakos, Dimos Moutsis, Apostolos Kaldaras, Giorgos Hatzinassios, Yiannis Spanos, Giorgos Zambetas, Antonis Katinaris, Haris Lymberopoulos, Vangelis Pitsiladis, Lykourgos Markeas, Andreas Karagiannopoulos.

The book of condolences featured the messages of ordinary people, whose lives he accompanied and will continue to accompany with his songs. As one of them typically wrote, “good heavens, Mr. Stamatis Kokota. With what heart should I say goodbye to you?”
