Another 15 migrants were rescued from the shipwreck in Lesvos – the dead rose to 18

A man’s body was recovered a while ago. Investigations in order to establish the existence of other dead or trapped people are currently underway

Fifteen foreigners of whom 11 men and four womenall of African descent were traced to Mytilene by officials of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and handed over to the competent authorities. As they said they are survivors of the shipwreck this morning.

In the boat wreck with refugees and immigrants all of African origin today at 2 past midnight a total of 18 people lost their lives, 16 women and one 15 year old teenagerwhile a little while ago a man’s body was located and recovered.

Others were also rescued 10 women many of which were trapped in the rocks below a military outpost located in the area. According to the first reports, there were about 40 people on board the boat that sank.

However, investigations are continuing in order to establish the existence of other dead or trapped people.
