“In the early hours of Thursday, October 6, the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) began a search and rescue operation in the Aegean under difficult weather conditions. A Latvian plane and three Portuguese rescue divers who took part in the Frontex operation in Greece helped the Greek authorities in locating the missing people,” says the FRONTEX statement.
He notes that “89 people have been rescued at sea, while 16 people have been pulled to land. Those requiring medical attention have been taken to a hospital. Unfortunately, 18 lives have been lost.”
