He deposited money into bank accounts suggested to him by strangers on social media, with the promise of making a big profit.
Credulity cost a 29-year-old man from Heraklion, who fell victim to an online fraud, more than 12,000 euros. When he found out, he went to the Heraklion Security Directorate, where he reported the fraud and asked for help to identify the perpetrators and get his money back.
The 29-year-old had an account on Instagram and during the summer he received in his inbox a message from a page, which suggested that he deposit money in certain bank accounts with the promise that he would make a large profit.
The young man was convinced and according to what police sources reported to ERT Heraklion, from July 24 to August 16 he made eight deposits, totaling 12,650 euros, into foreign bank accounts.
However, he was wrongly waiting for the profits that were promised to him. When he realized that it was a scam, he decided to ask for the assistance of the Police. Thus, last Friday, he filed a complaint with the Security, which is now investigating the case.
