Zelensky: “Russia wants to wipe us off the face of the earth” – Barrage of Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities

There are dead and injured from the explosions that took place in various cities of Ukraine today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said and accused Russia of trying to wipe his country “off the face of the earth”.

“They are trying to exterminate us and wipe us off the face of the earth … to exterminate the citizens sleeping in their homes in (the city of) Zaporizhia. To kill people going to work in Dnipro and Kyiv,” Zelensky wrote on the Telegram messaging app.

“The air raid sirens don’t stop sounding all over Ukraine. Missiles are hitting us. Unfortunately, there are dead and injured,” he said.

Except missile attack on Kyivseveral other Ukrainian cities were hit this morning by shelling, the Ukrainian presidency announced, cited by AFP, which advised the population to “remain in shelters.”

AFP reporters in Kyiv said they heard at least five explosions and plumes of smoke rising into the air. “Ukraine is being attacked with missiles, we have information about hits in many cities of our country,” presidential official Kirill Tymoshenko said in a Telegram post.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs also announced that a Russian missile hit a street where security services and the office of Volodymyr Zelensky are located.

Mayor Klitschko added in a more recent message that Kiev’s main roads are now blocked off by security forces, noting that the threat remains to the Ukrainian capital after an airstrike alert earlier and warned its residents to stay in shelters .

Interior Ministry adviser Anton Gerashchenko also clarified that “one of the missiles landed near the Khrushchev monument on Volodymyr Street. The rescue crews have rushed.”
