Sounds weird to you, I know. But, it’s not!
Food waste is a big “silent” environmental issue with social as well as economic implications and concerns us all. According to official figures, it is responsible for 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, while it is estimated that around 3.3 billion tons of methane are released each year due to food decay.
AB Vassilopoulos together with WWF Greece have started a “journey” of information and mobilization against food waste and invite us to “travel” together, making small movements of great importance, to “save food” and protect the environment.
Start today, from the kitchen of your home with small steps, adopting more sustainable solutions for you, your family and the environment.
5 SMALL MOVES TO REDUCE FOOD WASTE
• The correct storage of food in the refrigerator contributes to its preservation for a longer period of time
• If there is leftover food, you can take it with you in a container for the next day at work
• The correct calculation of portions will help you cook the quantities you need.
• If you can’t eat something, you can share it with your loved ones or donate it to someone who really needs it
• Parents with young children can cook with their little ones. This way, they involve them in the preparation process, and it is more likely that they will eat all the food and in the end…no portion goes to waste.
Through small but important movements, we all contribute to reducing food waste!
