The perpetrators denied all charges against them and were released pending trial.
The four young men who are accused of attempting to rob a mobile phone shop on Monastiriou Street were released with restrictive conditions after their apology to the Thessaloniki investigator, but were trapped inside the business when, attempting to destroy the security camera, they caused an electrical fault, with the consequence to drop the safety rolls.
In their apologies, the defendants, three Greeks and one Albanian (ages 18 and 22) denied that they attempted to rob the store, while they allegedly claimed that they went to resolve the differences they had with the owner of the store due to an earlier incident.
With regard to the bulletproof vests with the insignia of the Greek Police and the weapons (air gun, pistol, knives) that they are accused of possessing, they seem to have apologized that they neither carried them on them nor were they theirs, but “we found them in the business and were hidden.” They even denied tying up the store employee of Pakistani origin with a tire-up.
With the agreement of the prosecutor and the investigator, it was decided to release them until the trial, under the following restrictive conditions: appearance at the Police Department of their place of residence, prohibition to leave the country and payment of a monetary guarantee of 2000 euros (each).
Criminal charges had been brought against them for attempted robbery, unlawful violence, defying the Authority, damage to foreign property, bodily harm and violations of weapons legislation.
