by

Today, December 10, the platform opens so that parents can make vaccination appointments against covid-19, for their children aged 5-11 and the first appointment for vaccination will be on December 15.

Their vaccination will primarily protect them, while at the same time will reduce the number of cases at school and will help strengthen the immunity of the community in general, said Professor of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and member of the Committee of Experts Vana Papaevangelou during the briefing. .

He noted that the data from the US and Israel on the safety of vaccines for children of this age are excellent. In the United States, according to the CDC, to date more than 5 million children have received the first dose and 1.8 million children have completed their two-dose vaccination. “It is emphasized that there is no indication of unexpected side effects from the administration of the vaccine to children 5-11 years old, nor have episodes of myocarditis-pericarditis been recorded after the vaccination”, said Ms. Papaevangelou.

The Israeli health ministry also said in a statement that no serious side effects had been reported since the first 60,000 children were vaccinated in Israel. Today, many European countries have already given a positive opinion on the vaccination of children aged 5-11, such as Austria, Denmark, Spain, Italy and Ireland, and other countries are expected to be added after the vaccine is available in Europe next week, the professor said.

The first receipt of children’s vaccines on December 13

On December 13 will be the first receipt of children’s vaccines in our country, by the companies Pfizer / BioNTech. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) on November 25 approved the vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years.

The dose for children of this age is 1/3 of the dose of the vaccine given to adults, that is, 10 micrograms compared to the 30 micrograms that is the adult vaccine.

Studies have shown that the production of antibodies at a dose of 10 micrograms was comparable to the dose of 30 micrograms given to older people.

Where will the children be vaccinated?

The vaccinations will be carried out in Primary Care structures and in Hospitals and in the first phase there will be vaccination centers for pediatric vaccines in 75 areas of Greece. More vaccination centers and Health Centers will be gradually added.

In Attica the vaccinations will be carried out in 5 vaccination points. At the Agia Sofia Children’s Hospital, at the Penteli Children’s Hospital, at the Voula Asclepieion, at the Agia Sofia Health Center in Piraeus and at the Peristeri Health Center.

Also, on the islands and in the remote areas, “cruise vaccinations” will be applied, as was done with the first and the second dose.
