Prices have already started to rise while no one knows how much a bouquet will cost in the future.
It seems that flowers will become an expensive gift from now on.
Prices have already started to rise while no one knows how much a bouquet will cost in the future.
The flowers will soon be coming from abroad as Greek greenhouses struggle to keep up with rising prices while shops try their best to hold down prices.
As Nikos Andrikopoulos, the owner of the flower shop, says speaking to thebest.gr, there is an increase in the price of all flowers.
“The increases in oil make it difficult to operate the greenhouses and thus we are forced to source flowers from abroad.
All the flowers from different countries end up in the Netherlands and from there we in turn order them
This applies to all flowers, the first we stock is the rose. Until a while ago we managed to buy from Greece, but in view of the winter it seems that we will have a serious problem.
There will be a large percentage of flowers that will come from abroad, while every week the prices change with an upward trend.
We are trying so far not to increase the price for the consumer. We do what we can. There are increases, but not the ones that should be.
Essentially, the increase is paid by the shops.
The increase we can put in is small and the problem facing the shops is serious. If we raise the prices of flowers too much, no one will come into our shops.
I cannot know where the price of a bouquet will reach, but the winter will be difficult, although so far the traffic has not decreased. People love and prefer the flower and we, for our part, try to keep the prices down as much as we can”.
