THE labor shortageconcerns the local market and economy in Rethimno and by extension the members of the Chamber of Rethymno. In a meeting of the body, among other things, the great problem of arrhythmias was discussed in detail, as reported by the administration, in the balance of the local labor market, “… since the lack of labor force is the big “headache” for the businesses of all branches of the economy of Rethymno ».

Immigration abroad, subsidizing unemployment and not work, all forms of benefits granted, restrictions on immigration from third countries, the lack, in Public Vocational Training Institutes (DIEK) and Vocational High Schools, of specialties with modern training content with market demand are some of the factors of labor shortage. In an effort to normalize the situation, the Chamber will immediately send to the Region of Crete: “… an assessment report on the maximum number of third-country citizens, by specialty, who fall within its area of ​​competence, who are necessary to enter for the purpose of working in P. E. Rethymno during the next two years”.

At the same time, the Region of Crete is organizing in Heraklion on 24/10/2022, on the same topic, a broad meeting of bodies from all over the island, in which representatives of the Chamber of Rethymno will participate with the aim of finding solutions and submitting proposals.
