Sunak and Mordant were ranked second and third respectively in the race to succeed Boris Johnson and are said to be the choice of MPs who consider Ms Truss’s days “numbered”.

Top Conservative MPs in Britain have begun discussions about replacing her Liz Truss from the duo Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordantwith one of the two being “crowned” as prime minister, the Times reports.
Sunac and Mordant were ranked second and third respectively in the race to succeed him Boris Johnson and they are said to be the choice of the MPs who consider Mrs. Tras’s days “numbered”.
The British Prime Minister is widely expected cancel other tax cuts he had announcedunder the pressure of parliamentarians and markets.
Prevailing is the reversal of the announcement of the scrapping of the corporate tax rate hike planned for April (by former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak).
A growing number of Conservative MPs are commenting on condition of anonymity that the reversal of mini-budget tax cuts, which have roiled markets, is “inevitable”.
The effect of this reversal, however, will be the complete loss of political prestige for the prime minister, resulting in a search for a way to replace her just weeks after her ascension to the country’s top political office.
According to the statutes of the relevant party body, the 1922 Committee, the new party leader cannot be challenged by an internal party no-confidence procedure for 12 months after taking office.
In practice, however, it is believed that if enough MPs exert pressure, the 1922 Commission could give the go-ahead for a new succession process, the fourth in the Conservative Party since 2016.
In such a case MPs would like there to be no more than one nomination, so that the party members are essentially called upon to simply ratify and not choose the new leader of the Conservatives and a new prime minister.
The succession scenarios, according to the Times, also include an attempt by some 20 to 30 former ministers and top MPs to set up a party “council of elders” to tell Ms Truss it is time to step down.
A Tory MP who backed Liz Truss in the recent succession race has confided in The Times that he believes the Prime Minister will be ousted “by Christmas at the latest”.
Another MP, however, a former minister, estimated speaking to the Daily Mail that the succession process could start much earlier if the “medium-term fiscal plan” to be presented on October 31 does not convince the markets.
“The concern is that he still seems to be in denial about how bad things are,” commented the MP.
Meanwhile, a poll for The Times shows that 43% of Conservative voters want the party’s MPs to sack Ms Truss. 62% answer that the choice of Tras as prime minister was wrong.
Of all the respondents, 50% want the removal of the prime minister, while only 9% consider the choice of Tras to be prime minister good.
