University of Patras: Students built an innovative greenhouse

by

The next day of the project involves the installation of systems that will use the energy produced

An innovative greenhouse with innovative technologies built by the agronomy students of the University of Patras.

The design allows the flow of the necessary solar radiation for cultivation, since it is a double-sided type of photovoltaics, increasing energy production. Electricity production is also based on sunlight.

The students proceeded to restore the operation of the electromechanical equipment, the electrical installation, the internal and external electrical lighting network, connection to the data network, replacement of glass panes of the cover and steel elements of the frame, which had suffered serious damage over time.

They have also installed an Automatic Meteorological Station with sensors to record climatic parameters of the macroclimate.

At the same time, they installed two microclimate data collection systems for conducting research.

In addition, the greenhouse was transformed into a digital one, with the installation of Intelligent Agriculture systems, based on the creation of a wireless data receiving network with the installation of optical fibers for remote communication.

On the energy side, the need to create an autonomous energy greenhouse led to the integration of a series of innovative semi-transparent photovoltaic units on the roof of the greenhouse.

Next target is the installation of systems that will use the energy produced, such as e.g. the installation of an electric bicycle/skate charging station.

The project was developed at the University of Patras -during the academic year 2021-2022-, within the framework of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Laboratories of Biology, Agriculture and Electrical Engineering and Computer Technology.
