A member of a migrant trafficking ring from Turkey through Evros was arrested in Athens: The plastic boats, the videos and the “Hawala” method

New members of a migrant smuggling ring from Turkey to Greece have been identified following the arrest of a 41-year-old foreign member and the ongoing investigation into his dismemberment. In this context, a case of promotion of (16) foreigners from Istanbul to Athens was investigated in stages in intermediate stages, starting from 13 to 14 October 2022.

In particular, after the activity of the ring was ascertained, in the early hours of Sunday morning (16-10), an operation was carried out by police officers of the Immigration Management Department of the Directorate of Aliens of Attica on the Athens-Lamia National Road at the height of Varymombi, where a key member of the ring was arrested at the moment who was promoting with his car four foreigners who lacked legalization documents.

A case file was filed against him for facilitating entry from Greek territory for profit – continuous transfer of foreigners to the interior.

As it emerged from the investigation, the ring recently organized a new illegal promotion (16) of immigrants from Turkey to Greece. The immigrants were initially transported from Istanbul to Istanbul by road and then members of the ring took them to a wooded area of ​​Evros.

From there, using plastic boats and after dividing them into groups, they facilitated their illegal entry into Greek territory.

Then, using two cars, they were transported to Thessaloniki where they stayed in houses maintained by the circuit. From there, on 15-10-2022, the above accused received (4) foreigners, whose transportation he undertook by car to Athens. In addition, he was responsible for ensuring their further promotion to European countries by air.

A characteristic of their action is the fact that the repayment of the participating traffickers in the various stages was carried out in stages. Specifically, when each stage of the staggered promotion was completed, the member of the circuit who was in charge of completing it, videotaped the immigrants and sent the material to an illegal transactions office in Istanbul, so that the fee could be released and paid using the “HAWALA” method which belongs to them.

The arrested person, with the file filed against him, was taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Athens.
