“The wall teaches” in a school in Kalamata and is gaining impressions

by

On the walls of the school, and even on the outer floor of the courtyard, various geometric shapes, sayings, proverbs of lessons taught to the children have been carved.

An innovative action program was implemented in the 5th General High School of Kalamata with the title “The wall teaches”in the context of implementing differentiated learning practices.

In this particular school, each wall has its own lesson. Even on the outer floor of the forecourt, various geometric shapes have been crafted, sayings, gnomonics from the objects of the archaeological courses, the positive courses and the other knowledge subjects that are taught.

The initiative belongs to all the teachers of the past school years, who constantly support actions for the development of students’ learning abilities and carry out educational innovations.

The artistic part was taken over by Yiannis Tsimogiannis, who for free created, among other things, shapes that are no longer taught in detail, constituting in any case a “heritage” for the younger ones.

He himself, during the 2nd lockdown in 2021, had expressed his artistic talent on Hephaistou Streetin the Historical Center, renaming it to street
“Euclidean Geometry”.

Different way of teaching

Regarding this action, the director of the 5th GEL, Georgia Papathanasopoulou, told “E” that the children’s reactions from the moment it was implemented until today are very positive, as were the parents’ positive ones, seeing, among other things, messages that are translated as a different way of transmission and teaching. “Through this process, the children now approach Mathematics in a better way, but also additional subjects, as inscriptions with the words of sages, philosophers and ancient sayings are displayed on the walls,” he noted. At the same time, he emphasized that mainly with the help of Mr. Tsimogianni, but also through the cooperation of the students, the image of the school was shaped accordingly. She spoke of a practical innovation, in the context of the relevant programs that “run” in all schools. “It was a collaboration, which was done mainly with the previous management of Ioannis Bougas” he added, commenting that this action can act as a model in the educational community, each school taking an example from the other, as has been done in the past.
