Owls in the “battle” against rodents from the Region of Thessaly

“Nature will fight the mice and bring the natural balance” Kostas Agorastos said, among others, on the “Connections” show of ERT, talking about the huge problem faced by the farmers of the Thessaly Region with the appearance of a large number of rodents that create serious problems in the agri-food chain.

The Regional Governor of Thessaly stated that they will apply a new innovative method, which has already been used by other countries, such as Israel, Switzerland and the USA, which faced a similar issue with the appearance of mice. This is a solution that uses a natural method for the extermination of rodents, without burdening the environment, underlined Mr. Agorastos.

According to this new method, they will build – in the areas where the rodents appeared – houses for the nocturnal predator Tritone, which resembles the “owl” of the Greek region, and this in turn will hunt the rodents, as they are prey for them the birds.
