The Mayor of Athens, Costas Bakoyiannis, emphasized the importance of this partnership for the support of tourism, but also the effort made through such initiatives, so that Athens remains high in the ranking of conferences

Joint strategic actions, which will support conference tourism and create more jobs in the tourism sector, are being undertaken from today by the Athens Municipality Convention and Visitors Bureau (This is Athens-CVB), the Association of Greek Professional Events and Conference Organizers – HAPCO & DES and the Thessaloniki Convention and Visitors Bureau (TCB).

In a special event held at the Concert Hall, the three important organizations of our country’s conference tourism sealed, by signing a memorandum, the close cooperation that has been established since the very first period of the pandemic through the partnership “Greek Meetings Alliance” (GMA ).

The cooperation of the three entities dates back at least two years, when, in the midst of a pandemic, the Greek Meetings Alliance (GMA) partnership was created to deal with the unprecedented crisis in the conference industry.

The Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, emphasized the importance of this partnership for supporting tourism, but also the effort made through such initiatives, so that Athens remains high in the ranking of conferences both at the European and international level (today is 6th in Europe and 8th in the world).

“Through this dynamic collaboration we will be able to further strengthen the visibility of Athens in the international conference market and stimulate the city’s economy. For the Municipality of Athens, tourism development is a strategic priority linked to urban development, the upgrading of the city’s infrastructure and the quality of life of the residents. We are proud that the Convention and Visitors Bureau of the Municipality of Athens, which operates under the “umbrella” of EATA, was recently recognized as the best in Europe in the international tourism awards, thus sealing the successful management and promotion of the destination by Municipality of Athens”, Mr. Bakoyiannis noted, among other things.
