“I believe that only your visit will give the citizens of the city the courage to continue working to restore the damage caused by nature’s fury,” writes the student.

A few days after catastrophic floods in Sitia, the 13-year-old Giorgos Stavrakakis, a student of the 1st High School, took the initiative to write a letter to the President of the Republic, inviting her to visit his town and its residents, in order to see firsthand the magnitude of the disaster.

“I believe that only your visit,” he says, among other things, “will give the citizens of the city the courage to continue working to restore the damage caused by the fury of nature.”

These thoughts of his, as he mentions in his letter, he takes the courage to share them with the PtD because as the Head of State that he is, he must be informed about the unprecedented disaster that happened in Sitia.

The young student writes:

“Dear Mrs. Sakellaropoulou, my name is Giorgos Stavrakakis and I am a student and president of the A3 section of the 1st Gymnasium of Sitia. With this unprecedented disaster that happened in our city, I decided that the right and proper thing to happen at this moment is that you, as its Head, should be informed State and as the President of the Hellenic Republic, I would therefore ask you with all the courage to visit our region and see with your own eyes the disasters and the grim damages suffered by the residents, the hoteliers, the shopkeepers and finally the citizens of Sitia. Of course, I must note that the Minister of Shipping Yannis Plakiotakis, the Deputy Minister of the Interior Stelios Petsas, the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Christos Triandopoulos, the Regional Governor of Crete Stavros Arnautakis and the MP Manolis Thrapsaniotis have already visited the area. Despite the gentlemen’s visit, I believe that only your visit will give the citizens of the city the courage to continue working they are without fear, also your visit will give them courage and make them feel affection from your side and finally your visit will make my fellow citizens cooperate and work together to clean the city.

It is equally important to mention that in 8 days is the National holiday “NO” and like every year we parade in the central square of Sitia which today has been damaged like the beach and other areas of Sitia. With your visit you will have the opportunity to meet people from many sectors and different specialties, students from different schools, people from the municipality and finally ordinary people who are currently working for the safe operation of the city. I would like you to draw your attention to my letter and emphasize what I write.

Yours sincerely,

George Stavrakakis

President A3″
