Miraculously, her 50-year-old husband and her 10-year-old son, who were in the next room, were saved.

Her 50-year-old husband managed to free himself causing him to call the emergency number 112 while he started searching the ruins for his family.

25 vehicles with 50 firefighters, an echelon of the 3rd EMAK, volunteers from the Ierapetra Emergency Department and the Red Cross, people from the Civil Protection and the municipality of Ierapetra rushed to the scene and began a great effort to locate and rescue the 45-year-old woman and the 10-year-old child.

Tragic irony

The family from Slovenia would leave on Sunday morning for their homeland. But he did not make it for a few hours.

The family lived in the two rooms of the hotel. That is, in those where the rock collapsed, while it is worth noting that the rest of the hotel rooms were empty.

Meeting of agencies in Ierapetra
