In a 1969 interview with Rolling Stone, Dylan referred to the time he spent with Lewis working in the same studio
Bob Dylan paid tribute to the late Jerry Lee Lewis during his Nottingham gig covering Lewis’ 1970 hit “I Can’t Seem to Say Goodbye”.
After a series of early announcements of the 87-year-old’s death that surfaced last week, Lewis’ death was officially confirmed on Friday morning. “Judith, his seventh wife, was by his side when he died,” his spokesman Zach Farnum wrote in a statement. “He told her, in his last moments, that he welcomed the future and that he was not afraid.”
That same day, Dylan stopped his show in England to pay his respects, telling his fans attending the concert at the Motorpoint Arena: “I don’t know how many of you know, but Jerry Lee is gone. We’re going to play this song, one of his. Jerry Lee will live forever – we all know that.”
He then launched into a moving rendition of ‘I Can’t Seem To Say Goodbye’.
