Adonis Georgiadis: Meetings to expand the “household basket”

by

The “household basket” will be on supermarket shelves from Wednesday, November 2.

“In the coming days we will have many meetings and with other sectors and we will see who we will include in the “household basket” if they also wish it”, said the Minister of Development and Investments, Adonis Georgiadis, in an interview today on ERT.

“From Wednesday, November 2, it will be on the shelves of supermarkets. I am sure that very quickly people will understand how it works and it will gain great momentum. The basket will be updated every Wednesday. We decided that the renewal should take place every week in order to ensure the adequacy of the products”, emphasized the minister and added: “What will be in the basket is chosen by each chain. For example, a chain may have a very low-priced basket of only private label products. Another chain may have a basket with slightly higher prices, but with branded products. Whether it will have private label or branded products is something that will ultimately be decided by the consumer, who will choose to buy it or not. Each chain can follow the policy it wants. We will advertise every day “the household basket” in each chain. We will let the competition between them work and that is why it got approval from the Competition Commission, because the competition laws apply to the whole and to the household basket”.

Referred to at the profit ceiling stated that when it was first implemented, one in four businesses was fined. “We had a high delinquency rate of 25%. For several weeks now, we have been struggling to find business that breaks the cap. We are below 6% in delinquency. Well, the increases you see according to the official audit data are not a product of profiteering. It is unfortunately a product of the great global inflationary cycle,” noted the minister.

Finally in a relationship with the deletion of Mr. Patsis Mr. Georgiadis said: “Each of us in politics has a large share of individual responsibility. This is received by each member of parliament when he is elected or when he accepts to be exposed in order to be elected to the public. This is obviously valued by the voters when he is elected by preference cross. But there is also a red line that you cannot cross, which is the law. The law in this case is not on the side of Mr. Patsis. Well, from the moment it was established that there was a violation of the law, there was only one way for New Democracy to proceed with its deletion. The law under which Mr. Patsis bought the red loans of Piraeus and proceeded with this related procedure, is a 2016 law of Mr. Tsakalotos with Mr. Tsipras as Prime Minister. So if a Greek citizen makes use of a law passed by SYRIZA, does SYRIZA have the right to accuse him of being immoral because he used the law passed by SYRIZA?”
