by

From November 1, citizens can use the Gov.gr Wallet for their transactions with credit institutions and financial organizations, as well as with fixed and mobile phone providers

The ability to use instead of their identity Gov.gr Wallet in banks and mobile and landline companies have from today Tuesday, November 1st, the citizens. According to the no. 5003/28-10-2022 Joint Ministerial Decision, regulating:

1. the identification process with Gov.gr Wallet at banks and mobile and landline companies and
2. the process of issuing the identity document for the above entities in cases where they are required to keep a photocopy of the police identity card.

In particular, from today citizens can use the Gov.gr Wallet for their transactions with credit institutions and financial organizations, as well as with fixed and mobile telephony providers. The authentication of each digital copy is exactly the same as it has been since July for all other transactions and is done with the QR code of the digital copy.

Specifically:

• As soon as someone scans a citizen’s QR code through the Gov.gr Wallet application, the latter receives a notification from the application, in order to give approval to the controller to verify their information.
• After the citizen approves the check, a six-digit code appears on the screen of the application, which he must dictate or show to the checker, who in turn registers it on his own device.
• After the process is complete, then and only then the digital copy data is displayed once and only on the controller’s device, with no storage capability.
In addition, for those transactions with banks and mobile and landline telephone companies until now it was necessary to keep a photocopy of a police identity card, it is now possible to issue a digital document that will include all the necessary information. The creation of the document will be done with the approval of the citizen through the Gov.gr Wallet, with the following procedure:
• After identifying the citizen through the Gov.gr Wallet application, the employee of the bank or mobile or landline telephone company enters the number of the natural person’s identity card into the specially configured system of the organization and will request the issuance of the document.
• Then the citizen receives a notification about the request in Gov.gr Wallet and, after approving it, a six-digit code appears on the application screen which he must dictate or show to the employee and he in turn registers it in the system .
• The document that is issued automatically has a unique document code and a QR code and will be kept in the information systems of the above entities, under their own responsibility, for as long as necessary.

It is reminded that the Gov.gr Wallet was put into operation at the end of July, enabling the creation, storage and authentication of digital copies of the ID and driver’s license on our mobile phone. So far, more than 1,500,000 digital copies of IDs and driving licenses have been created and stored on mobile phones. Digital copies have exactly the same validity as paper certificates within the country, with the only exception being international travel. The application was designed and implemented by the National Network of Technology and Research Infrastructures – EDYTE SA. (GRNET), a supervised entity of the Ministry of Digital Governance. The extraction of all the necessary data is carried out through the Interoperability Center of the General Secretariat of Public Administration Information Systems.

Frequently asked questions and answers can be found in the application and on wallet.Gov.gr. In addition, citizens can submit service and support requests at wallet.Gov.gr/support.
