Premiere for the household basket – The digital platform “fell” due to traffic

When will the products be renewed, how will the implementation of the measure be controlled – The “household basket” has a purpose to give our vulnerable fellow citizens the opportunity to buy products they need, without the effects of inflation, Adonis Georgiadis told SKAI.

Premiere with technical problems on the e-katanalotis.gov.gr digital platform for the household basket, due to consumers’ efforts to check product prices by supermarket chain. The digital platform is currently “down” due to high traffic.

Consumers who try to access the website see the following message: “this site can’t be reached”.

The “household basket” has a purpose to give our vulnerable fellow citizens the opportunity to buy products they need, without suffering the effects of inflation, the Minister of Development and Investments told SKAI 100.3 Adonis Georgiades on the occasion of the premiere of the measure today, Wednesday.

The minister said that all consumers can enter the website, or if they have downloaded the application on their mobile phone (Android or iOS) and see all the supermarket chains, but also compare the prices of the products.

Mr. Georgiadis clarified that the general ceiling applies anyway, while he characterized as “nonsense” the claims that the prices of the other products will rise in order to reduce the prices of the basket products.

He also recalled that the proposal to reprice, where implemented, led to empty shelves.

Asked about what will happen to the products for diabetics, which are not included in the “household basket”, the Minister of Development admitted that this is a failure which – as he said – will be resolved.

In the morning, the Minister of Development made an autopsy for the premiere of the implementation of the measure. “This project is an initiative of ours, it has not been done anywhere else in Europe, it is an idea that was born in my office, we have worked to implement it. You see the prices seem to be much better in the basket than outside of it and that is what we will continue to do in the coming weeks,” the Minister of Development emphasized.

When will the products be renewed, how will the implementation of the measure be controlled?

As provided for in the Ministerial Decision, food and other product hypermarkets that carry out retail activities (super markets) with an annual turnover of more than 90,000,000 euros per year, are required to send to the Ministry of Development & Investments a list of consumer products (“household basket ») that are necessary for a decent living, as stated in the relevant decision.

The list of products will be declared every week and specifically every Wednesday at 9 am.

Today, however, the first day of implementation of the measure aimed at containing the prices of basic living products, the Minister of Development and Investments Adonis Georgiadis, the Deputy Minister Nikos Papathanasis, the Secretary General of Trade and Consumer Protection Sotiris Anagnostopoulos, the Commander of the Inter-Services of the Market Control Unit (DIMEA) Charalambos Melissinos and DIMEA auditors, visit ten supermarket chain stores in the following order:

It is noted that the controls for the implementation of the measure will be continuous, while the sending of the product catalog for the companies that are obliged to send data to the electronic platform e-katanalotis, will be done through the same platform, while for the rest of the companies, the sending of the catalogs it is done with a list at the email address [email protected].
